Meet a Librarian

Hi, my name's Derrilin and I have been with Shoalhaven Libraries for 24 years. For the past 20 of those years I have been responsible for the Local Heritage and Family History collections.

The LFH collection is a special collection and as a result I have the opportunity to cover many of the roles within the library from selecting collections items to assisting people find resources that may help them with their research. I also teach classes and promote the many resources we hold in the collection.

I have seen a lot of changes in 24 years, especially technology changes. With the advent of Ancestry and Find My Past much of the information people once visited the library for is now available online. However people still need assistance in accessing this information and that is where I can assist. The questions I have been asked have sometimes been very challenging but they are never boring. I think it also helps that I am local through and through.

Outside of the library I enjoy long walks, my garden, sewing and, of course, reading. In particular Nordic crime and Australian heritage novels.
